Day 5 - Tuesday Nov 7

(election Day, but it hardly feels like it)

First we take the dinghy over to the Bitter End Yacht Club to see if they have internet connection. The Bitter End is very upscale and no, they did not have internet. But wow, what a nice place. Maybe we should have came over for dinner last night. Well there's the next trip. We get underway in 15-20 Knot winds coming off our port quarter in a broad reach. The weather had been projecting northern swells coming off the ocean and the swells were running about two-three feet. As we got into open water we heard a POP! and the dinghy rope had came untied where we had cut it in half two days earlier. So we dropped sails and went back to rescue the dinghy. Sharon was driving and I was in charge of snagging the dinghy. After several attempts we rescued it and tied a better knot which held the rest of the day in heavy rollers and the rest of the trip. We ran 6-8 knots/hour down to Norman Island and the Bight, which is almost the other end of the Virgin Islands in about a three hour sail!

After hooking up to a mooring ball at Norman Island in the Bight we decide to go eat some lunch and then maybe snorkel before dinner, So we went ashore to Pirates Restaurant.  They did not have a written menu, so the waitress told us the very short list of menu items they had. Sharon had Caesar Salad with shrimp and I had conch fritters and we both a few rum punches.  So by the time we get back to the boat we decided that we really don’t want to snorkel anymore and a nap may be more in order. We had dinner aboard and then motor the dinghy over to the "Willy T". The William Thornton is a bar that is a boat and was made famous by young ladies jumping naked off the second deck and reporting to the bartender for their free T-shirt. Someone got hurt about 6 months ago and jumping no longer happens. (Damned the luck!) There are signs all over the boat stating jumping is not allowed! It was pretty loud and after a couple of drinks we motored back to Lady Lillian.
