Day 6 - Wednesday Nov 8
The wind was rolling through the Bight pretty good and after we get up we immediately decide to motor over to the Caves, just around the point from the Bight and get a BVI National Parks mooring ball. The caves were well protected from the winds and we were a stone's throw from the shore and the caves. We had a leisurely breakfast then some fantastic snorkeling. We really enjoyed this stop. Lots of other boats were coming in including tour boats from Road Town. We were glad we moved over and got a mooring before breakfast. The caves were really only about 20-30 feet inside but there were different fish schooling inside of them. Unfortunately the film did not wind in my underwater camera so I did not get any snorkeling pictures. About 11:00 we release the mooring line and head for Jost (pro: Yost) Van Dyke on the north side of Tortola. Big time sailing in 20 knot winds. We hit 9.2 knots and over 8 much of the way. This is where the sailing videos were made. We sail up to Jost Van Dyke and catch a mooring ball in Little Harbour. We go to Abe’s which was a little fisherman’s dock and restaurant to pay for our mooring ball. Abe's was definitely a local place more so than a tourist hot spot and we were thinking they probably have some authentic Caribbean food. We then dinghy over to Sidney’s Peace and Love Bar. It has about a thousand T-shirts hanging from the ceiling and a “self-service” bar. You simply go behind the bar and make your own drink. Then they charge you by the glass. We inquired about a taxi to go to the other side of the Island to White Bay and the Soggy Dollar Bar which invented the Pain Killer, the most famous drink in the islands. Sydney’s daughter runs a taxi service and she took us over the the Soggy Dollar (after having a drink at Sydney’s to be polite of course) We get to the Soggy Dollar and Jeanette says she will be back to pick us up in 90 minutes, to take us to Foxy’s Restaurant at Great Harbour. At precisely 7:00 she appears and we get dropped off at Foxy’s and she is to return to pick us up at 9:00. We have a great dinner. Sharon has lobster and I have Mahi-Mahi with a mango salsa. Both were DELICIOUS. Jeanette arrives at 9:30 and picks up us and five other people going back to Little Harbour. When we get back our taxi bill was $65! But hey, we were there, we went to the Soggy Dollar and Foxy's so we got to check ALL of the blocks on things to do at Jost.
