1974 Ericson 27,

“Second Wind”

1974 Ericson 27, “Second Wind” for sale. I have greatly enjoyed sailing her for the past five years and have brought her to “sail-away” condition for her next owner. I would not sell her except that I plan to do more cruising and her bunks are just a bit too small for comfort for my 6’3”, 200 lb. body. “Normal-sized” people will find her cabin to be very large for a 27-footer! Headroom is 6’1” and the cabin is more open and roomy than most boats of her size. The folding dining table mounts to the bulkhead and is removable when not in use. The head is fully enclosed for privacy and features an electric flush head for convenience.

The Ericson 27 is a pleasure to sail. She is easily single-handed, with the mainsheet traveler and winches in easy reach of the helmsman. The hull shape is such that she does not develop excessive weather helm and has very little tendency to round up, even when over-powered. She is a dry boat and has a very stable motion for her length, which is important if you have guests who may be nervous about heeling, etc. Although not designed as a racer, Second Wind has been successfully raced in cruising class events and I have the hardware to prove it! Recent results include:

·        2009 Tri-Service Regatta: 1st place in Cruising Class 4 (2nd overall against all cruising classes, 4th fastest corrected time against all finishers, racing and cruising!)

·        2009 Cape Charles Cup: 2nd place in Cruising Class C.
