Spirit 28

$10,000

The following pictures are of our Spirit 28 - a GREAT boat, a lot of fun to sail, and very fast.

If you're looking for an economical boat, this one's for you. At 28 Ft, the maintenance is trivial, the slip fees are manageable, and it doesn't take a crew to get it underway.

This boat has had a LOT of attention, by someone who enjoys working on boats. Check out the list of upgrades below. The only reason I'm selling it is that I've found another sailboat to work on, something a bit bigger, but the missus tells me I must sell the current sailboat first.

The boat is a 1978 Spirit 28, manufactured by North American Yachts, under a license to Glastron. It's a fast boat - I took 3rd in class in the 2007 tri-service regatta, and 6th overall - out of something like 60 boats. Not bad for a 28 footer. That was before I spent $7000.00 on a complete set of new sails - Kevlar / Mylar for both the main and the jib. The original main is 140 Sq ft, but was upgraded to 170 sq ft when shifting to the mylar sails.

I cant say enough about the sails .... sparing no expense on putting together a dynamite package. As I mentioned above, I put $7000.00 into a mylar / kevlar / taffeta main and Jib. I installed a brand new roller furling system (Harken), a stack-pack, and strong system in the mast track. I also have a second (new) stack pack.

In addition to the sweet sails, here's a partial description of the rest of the boat:

all new running rigging a new electrical bilge pump - properly wired for automatic operation
a new manual bilge pump recent coast guard inspection - which includes the flares, life jackets - the works.
new depth sounder (and lighting) new carpeting
new compass (and lighting) completely refurbished pressure water system
all new interior lights fresh bottom cleaning (the middle of Oct 2008)
new cushions the 15 HP outboard engine is like new
bimini top two burner alcohol stove
polished hull - restoring it to new condition. new batteries
30 amp shore power reinforced rudder post
boom vang new stereo (with remote control)
full complement of fenders and dock lines

There's no name on the boat - so there's no hassles of getting rid of someone else's pet name .... slap on your vinyl lettering, and you're good to go. I've taken a perverse pleasure out of having a boat with no name on it - which also goes for the sails. The sails were purchased with no numbering, so if you have a favorite number, you can have it added to the sails at minimal cost.

The boat is in excellent condition, ready to sail away at a moments notice. It's been my hobby over the past year and I've gone over the boat with a fine tooth comb, touching anything that even remotely needed attention. Again, the only reason I'm considering selling it is that I've found another hobby boat that I'd like to play with.

This boat is easy to single-hand .... I take it out by myself on a regular basis, and am always under full sail well before leaving the marina.

Please pass to anyone interested. There's a finders fee to anyone who hooks me up with a buyer.
